How tough is it?

Four meters, each 1 to 5, rated by our published method. The basis under each one shows the figures behind the score. How we rate.

DurationHalf-day

Median finish about 1 h 44 min of roughly 900 results in the 2026 Main race, with the winner of the unofficial list at 51 min 41 s (Mika Timing results, June 2026; the list is marked as unofficial). Queues at obstacles slow mid-pack times, and the Double Distance add-on takes about twice as long. As of 2026-06.

TerrainMountain

An obstacle course: about 8 km of forest trail and hills with 30 to 40 obstacles, including a water passage of up to about 20 m on selected courses. Obstacle completion rates on the organiser's list range from 42 to 96 percent. All obstacles are optional, and penalty rounds are short jogs. Elevation not published. Organiser's pages, 2026-10. As of 2026-10.

ColdCool

Held on a June Saturday in the Stockholm area, with a start around 10:00. No race-day temperatures were sourced. You will be wet and muddy and may be cold in the wind after water obstacles, so a dry change of clothes is advised by the organiser. Scored 2 because a wet race in the wind needs a dry layer even in June. Organiser's pages, 2026-10. As of 2026-10.

Cut-offsOpen

No published cut-off times and a 99.5 percent finish rate according to the organiser. Entry is by online registration; prices step up three times, and registration closes about a week before or when the field is full. Competition classes (Elite and Qualifier) are separate. Organiser's pages, 2026-10. As of 2026-10.

The course

The event area is at Lida Friluftsgård, a recreation area with forest, hills and a lake in Tullinge, south of Stockholm. The Main race is approximately 8 km, and the organiser warns that the distance can vary. Your start time is emailed 4 to 5 days before the race and the first start groups of the day are reserved for competition classes. The race starts around 10:00 and bibs and timing chips are collected from 09:30, at least 30 to 60 minutes before your start.

Along the way you meet about 30 to 40 obstacles of different sizes. All of them are optional. On many you can pick the normal lane, a harder fast lane (marked green) or a penalty round (marked red, a short extra jog). The signature obstacles listed on the organiser's site include Dragon's Back (jumping between five platforms about 2.5 m high, with ladders as an option) and Arm Bike (pedalling with your arms, completed by only 42 percent), but the obstacles change from year to year and the organiser says it updates the course each season.

There is one water station about halfway and one after the finish, so bring your own bottle if you need more. The event area at the finish has food, music, a shop and a bag drop, but no dressing rooms, so arrive changed and take dry clothes. Finisher photos are posted on the organiser's Facebook page the week after.

How to enter

Entry is online at toughest.se. Registration fees rise through the registration period: 799 kr until 13 June 2026, 899 kr from 1 September 2026 and 999 kr from 1 January 2027 for the Main race on 5 June 2027 (roughly EUR 70 to 90). Registration closes about a week before the race or when the maximum capacity is reached. There is no qualification, but to run in the competition classes (Elite and Qualifier) you need to meet extra requirements; the discipline page on this site explains the Swedish rules.

All registrations are final and are not refunded. You can transfer your ticket to someone else until 7 days before the race, free if you bought the Changes and Transfers service and for a fee if not; you cannot switch to another race. The age limit is 18, or 13 with an adult and 16 on your own, both by application at registration. To run in teams, register with the same team name and you will be placed in the same start group; the organiser says 9 in 10 participants run in a group.

How to train for it

Train grip and pulling, not only running

Monkey bars, rope climbs and hanging obstacles are where most people fail an obstacle. Dead hangs, pull-ups and farmer carries a few times a week will do more than extra running kilometres.

Practise wet running in gloves and trail shoes

You will run in wet, muddy kit and over uneven forest. Do some of your runs in the shoes and clothes you plan to wear, and try gloves (optional but recommended by the organiser) for grip.

Make the choice at each obstacle before you reach it

You can skip an obstacle, take the penalty round or choose the fast lane. Decide the plan in advance for the ones you know are beyond you, so you do not lose time in queues or risk injury when tired.

Add short hills and fast walking to your week

The course goes through forest and hills, but at about 8 km most of the effort is repeated bursts. Interval hill sessions of 20 to 40 seconds with a jog down are enough preparation.

Train as a team if you are entering as one

Teams of friends start together and help each other over the obstacles. Practise lifting and spotting each other, and decide who goes first on obstacles that need a boost.

What you need

  • Trail shoes with good grip for mud; spikes and metal studs are not allowed.
  • Moisture-wicking top and shorts or tights; cotton gets heavy when wet. Long sleeves or compression tights help against scrapes when crawling and climbing.
  • Gloves for grip on wet obstacles, if you want them.
  • A dry, warm change of clothes and socks for after the race; there are no dressing rooms at the event area.
  • Your registration ID (from the confirmation email), start number and a valid ID card to collect your starting envelope.
  • Your own water bottle if you need more than the two water stations.

Getting there and staying

The event area is at Lidavägen 1, 146 33 Tullinge. The organiser recommends public transport or carpooling because parking is limited. From Tullinge Södra take bus 721 to Lida Friluftsgård after the commuter train; the organiser's page also mentions tram 36 towards Södertälje C to Tullinge Södra. By car, follow road 226 and signs from Pålamalmsvägen; free parking in a courtyard about 1 km from the event area.

Collect your starting envelope at the event area from 09:30, at least 30 to 60 minutes before your start, with ID and your registration ID. Bag drop is manned but the organiser takes no responsibility for loss or theft, so leave valuables elsewhere. Food and drink is sold at the event area.
